Privacy detailsLook for a clear, steady signal.
Speak normally and watch the waveform move. The meter shows a relative digital signal level in dBFS; it is not a calibrated sound-pressure measurement. Values close to 0 dBFS can indicate clipping. A quiet room and a consistent distance from your microphone usually help.
A moving waveform confirms that this browser receives audio. Playback helps you check for muffling, distortion, or background noise. It cannot guarantee how a meeting app will process your sound.
Not getting a signal?
- Check your physical mute switch and operating system input volume.
- Select the correct input device after granting permission.
- Allow microphone access in this site’s browser settings.
- Close other apps that may be holding the microphone.
Microphone test FAQ
Can you hear or store my recording?
No. This tool uses a local audio stream and an in-memory recording. It does not send audio to a server. You can delete the sample, or close the page to discard it.
Why does the browser ask for permission?
Websites must ask before using your microphone. Access requires HTTPS or localhost. You can revoke access through your browser’s site settings.
Why does my mic stop when I switch tabs?
We stop capture when the page becomes hidden to avoid background recording. Return and press Start microphone to resume.
Does it work on phones and Bluetooth headsets?
It uses standard browser audio APIs. Available devices, Bluetooth routing, and recording formats depend on the browser and operating system. iOS may use the system-selected input. Try your browser directly if an embedded preview blocks permissions.
Why is the recording limited to 30 seconds?
A short sample is enough to check your sound and keeps memory use small. There is no live speaker monitoring, which avoids audio feedback.
